First day back in the studio.
I wanted to get stuck in and start painting again, so I didn't plan these throughly.
I used my heightened emotions of being back in the space I had been longing for as a catalyst for the marks and shapes. I wanted to keep the palette to similar colours in order to make the paintings more inviting rather than bold, harsh complimentarily colours that i think would make the paintings easier to 'read'- my aim to make the viewer have to spend more time with the work rather than being able to take it all in at once.. I am still working on this.
I did the smaller painting first which I enjoyed but I thought it seemed a bit static, so kept this in mind when starting the next piece.
Although I don't feel the need to work on these anymore I see them more as a starting point for my studio work.. something to think about when next painting rather than finished pieces.
Artists I been looking at (for concepts as much as aesthetics);
De Kooning
Cy Towmbly
Rothko
Kline
